Choosing a Small RIB Console Layout

On a small RIB, console placement competes with seating and passage space. Review the fully fitted drawing before approving a console that looks suitable in an empty hull.

Measure circulation space

Ask for a scaled layout including console footprint, seats, tubes and storage openings. Mark the route from boarding to each seat. Check usable clearances with the proposed occupants rather than relying only on overall beam.

Review the operator position

Request the steering, throttle and instrumentation arrangement from the installer. Confirm that the operator can reach controls and maintain the required visibility in the intended position. Cable routing and service access belong in the installation review, not an afterthought.

Coordinate equipment locations

Include battery, fuel system where applicable, safety equipment and storage in the same drawing. Ask how weight distribution and mounting are checked for the selected model. A console option from another RIB length should not be assumed to fit.

Approve the order drawing

Record console model, seating, finish, control package and the party responsible for installation. Request photographs or a sample of that configuration. Treat later layout changes as changes requiring review of access, routing and load information.

Procurement checklist

  • Approve a scaled fitted layout.
  • Check operator reach and visibility.
  • Name the installer and exact control package.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose a console from a photograph?

A photo helps identify appearance but does not establish mounting, control routing or passage dimensions.

Will a center console always be best?

The useful arrangement depends on the hull, boarding route, occupants and installed equipment.
