Define the operating brief
Write down the launch site, water conditions, operator experience and usual passengers. Include bags, safety equipment and propulsion in the proposed load. A published person limit does not describe how comfortably that particular group can sit or move.
Compare usable space
Ask for internal dimensions and a floor plan with seats installed. Tube diameter, bow shape and a transom can change usable space even when two boats have the same overall length. Mark the boarding route and where equipment will be secured.
Choose the complete configuration
Compare the same floor, seating, pump, paddles and storage package. A removable-panel floor has separate handling pieces; an air floor requires its own inflation instructions. For motor use, request written compatibility for the exact hull and motor combination.
Turn the shortlist into an RFQ
Send two suppliers the same brief, destination and quantity. Request a named model, order drawing, packed dimensions and itemized accessories. Record exclusions before comparing totals; an attractive hull-only quote can leave essential equipment outside the package.
