Thrust and horsepower cannot be compared on one number

Electric drives are specified as watts or as pounds of thrust at a stated current draw; petrol outboards are specified in horsepower at the shaft. Neither converts cleanly to the other, because the electric figure holds only while the battery holds voltage. A drive quoted at a peak rating and a drive quoted at a continuous rating can carry the same headline number and behave completely differently after twenty minutes.

When comparing quotes, ask for the runtime at a stated load rather than the peak wattage, and ask whether the battery is included, what its capacity is, and whether it is the supplier's pack or a generic one. Those three answers decide both the real-world performance and the shipping category.

Batteries change the freight problem
